3 - 10 July 2005

The Mathematical Research and Conference Center, Będlewo, Poland

Organizers: Stefan Banach International Mathematical Center, Warsaw University, Wrocław University.

Organizing Committee: Robert J. Daverman, Jerzy Dydak, Tadeusz Januszkiewicz, Krystyna Kuperberg, Sławomir Nowak, Stanisław Spież, Henryk Toruńczyk (chairman)

Scientific topics:

The conference talks will concentrate on the following topics:

Geometric group theory, Topology of manifolds, Dimension theory, Homotopy properties of wild spaces, Dynamical systems and continua theory, ANR's and Shape theory, Infinite-dimensional spaces, Convex sets and discrete geometry.

There will be up to 12 plenary and several section talks. The precise programme will be set up later on the basis of the submissions of the participants.

Additionally, there will be the following two workshops aimed largely at graduate students and young Ph.D.'s. Their unusual aspect is the addition of assistants who will be in charge of special meetings for graduate students in order to help them in catching up with the pace.

Workshop on Geometric Group Theory by Mladen Bestvina, with the assistance of Lars Louder and Henry Wilton.

Workshop on Asymptotic Dimension Theory by Alexander Dranishnikov, with the assistance of Greg Bell.

List of participants

Conference Proceedings: The organizers expect that the papers submitted by the participants of the conference will be published by Fundamenta Mathematicae (a journal so much associated with Karol Borsuk) in a separate issue, but subject to the normal refereeing procedure and acceptance criteria of Fundamenta. In order to enable publishing this issue in 2006, the papers should be submitted before December of 2005.

Accommodation: The participants will be accommodated in the hotel of the Będlewo Center.

Costs: The cost of one day (accommodation and full board) is 120 PLN (30 € or 39 US$) per person.
The conference fee is 200 PLN (50 € or 65 US$).
Those willing to attend the conference are asked to pay the above before June 10 to the appropriate bank account.

Registration: If you wish to attend the conference, please fill in the enclosed registration form and send it to the organizers.

Arrival/Departure: The arrival day is July 3, and the departure day is July 10.
The most convenient arrival/departure place is Poznań, either airport or railway station, from where you will be picked up by the organizers. However, if your route goes through Warsaw (either the airport or the train station) or you will be staying beyond July 3–10 in Poland then we may help you. We can make reservations for additional days to stay in Będlewo (the price as for other days) and for overnight stays in Warsaw (each night is ca. 130 PLN).
Please let us know about such demands by stating them in Requests and questions in the registration form.
