Greedy wavelet projections and the spaces BV(R^d)
Abstract.
In the space BV of functions of bounded variation on a d-dimensional euclidean space we consider a compactly supported wavelet basis normalized in BV. Each function from BV has a unique expansion with respect to this wavelet basis. An N-term (nonlinear) greedy projection is obtained by taking the first N largest terms of that expansion. It is shown that these projections are uniformly bounded in the BV norm.
