We will discuss some recent history and current trends around analytic
relational technologies. Topics to be briefly covered include: Columnar
Analytic Databases, SQL on Hadoop, cloud centric deployments and
problems of scale. We will also discuss approximate query processing as
one of the main approaches to dealing with scale.
ABOUT SPEAKER:
Rick has been working in the database industry for over 20 years. He has
worked to build some of the largest deployed data warehouses in the
World. He spent 17 years with Teradata where he served as the CTO of
Database Engineering. His Teradata career spans back to 1991 when he was
one of Teradata™s first professional services employees hired to work on
the noted Wal-Mart account in Bentonville. After Teradata he was the VP
of Technology and Architecture for ParAccell - a Columnar MPP database
that currently provides the RDBMS technology behind Amazon's Redshift.
Most recently he is cooperating with Infobright working on parallel
processing and approximate query techniques.
