Postdoc positions
in Geometric Group Theory and
Algebraic Geometry
at Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw
The positions are realised within the
Homing Plus
programme of Foundation for Polish Science.
The Algebraic Geometry positions are co-financed from European Union, Regional Development Fund.
Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw
announces an open call for
- short-term geometric group theory post-doctoral researcher positions,
- short-term algebraic geometry post-doctoral researcher positions
for stays of length at least 1 month but preferably of length at least
3-6 months.
Researchers having obtained their PhD degree from a Polish institution
are excluded from the call.
Applicants should have received their PhD in the year 2007 or later, or
should expect to receive it before the commencement of their position.
They should have substantial research achievements and plan to work in a
topic around one of the two projects listed below.
The positions should commence no earlier than June 1, 2012 and conclude
before the end date of respective project.
Researchers coming for more than one month will receive a monthly net
salary of approximately 4200 PLN and a small travel allowance.
Researchers coming for only one month will receive approximately 2000
PLN net and a free accommodation at the IM PAN guest rooms for the
duration of their stay.
The position comes with no teaching duties.
For the call in Geometric Group Theory the successful applicants will
work in the project "Cubulating groups" of P. Przytycki
in collaboration with D. T. Wise (McGill
University) and J. Mackay (University of Oxford), partially funded by the
Foundation for Polish Science. Positions must conclude before August 31,
2013.
For the call in Algebraic Geometry the successful applicants will work
in the project "Secant varieties, computational complexity, and toric
degenerations" of J. Buczyński
in collaboration with
K. Ranestad (University of Oslo) and G. Brown (University of
Loughborough). The project is realised within the Homing Plus programme
of Foundation for Polish Science, co-financed from European Union,
Regional Development Fund. The positions are partially funded by the
project. Positions must conclude before April 30, 2014.

position dates, a CV with a list of publications, and one recommendation
letter for candidates who apply to come for more than one month.
