Szymon Brzostowski Title: On the Lojasiewicz exponent in singularity theory Abstract: During the talk we are going to discuss the Lojasiewicz exponent   from two viewpoints. The first is the complex analytic one, where we shall   concentrate on the local situation and isolated hypersurface singularities. In this context, we shall first look through the results on the well-studied two-variable case and then explain what is, and what is not, currently known in many dimensions. The second viewpoint is more general, ring-theoretic one. Here, we shall present some of the basic properties of the Lojasiewicz exponent and then sketch our recent joint results with T. Rodak.
