Helmut Hamm Title: On the connectedness of the Milnor fibre Abstract: The Milnor fibre of a holomorphic function is known to be connected if its dimension is >0 and there is an isolated singularity (because then the Milnor fibre has the homotopy type of a bouquet of n-spheres). Here we weaken the assumption considerably. Furthermore we pass to a related global object: the number of connected components of the general fibre of a polynomial function. Also, we establish a connection with local Lefschetz theorems and Stein factorization theorem.
