It is well-known that classical statistical properties of probability preserving dynamical
systems do not hold or lose their significance for systems preserving an infinite measure.
In this talk I will give an overview of some recent approaches which try to solve these
problems. In particular, I will discuss the pointwise asymptotic behavior of Birkhoff sums
and the thermodynamic formalism for maps of the interval with indifferent fixed points.
I will also present some applications to continued fraction type maps.
