The Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IM PAN), in collaboration with the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw (MIM UW), established the Warsaw Center of Mathematical Sciences (WCNM). In 2012, the Center was awarded the status of a Leading National Research Center (KNOW) in the field of mathematical sciences. This distinction was conferred by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
In connection with the KNOW status, WCNM received a dedicated grant that ensured the Center’s funding for a period of five years (2012–2017). The financial support was allocated to enhancing the research potential of both partner institutions.
The core activities of the Center included postdoctoral positions, visiting professor positions, doctoral scholarships, and the organization of conferences, schools, and workshops.
