The laureate of the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences Award for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of mathematics in 2026 is Dr Mikołaj Frączyk from Jagiellonian University in Kraków. The jury recognized his work in the geometry and topology of locally symmetric spaces, in particular his pioneering results concerning their global structure.

The Laureate’s research focuses on locally symmetric spaces and combines differential geometry, Lie group theory, and topology. In his work, Dr Mikołaj Frączyk has obtained results of a pioneering nature, in particular by solving Margulis’s problem concerning the injectivity radius and making a significant contribution to the understanding of the relationship between volume and the topological complexity of these spaces.

The Laureate's lecture will take place during the IM PAN Colloquium at the Institute's headquarters, located at 8 Śniadeckich Str. (TBA)
