Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences Prize for outstanding scientific achievements in mathematics

Announcement

In 2024, the financial award amounts to 15 000 PLN (gross). The application deadline is 4 March 2024.

The application should include the following documents:

  1. application with signatures of 3 professors of Mathematics (not necessarily from the same institution) together with a short justification,
  2. scientific CV of the candidate,
  3. list of scientific publications of the candidate.

Applications can be submitted in the Secretarial Office of IM PAN or by mail to the address

Mariusz Mirek from University of Wrocław for outstanding results in harmonic analysis and ergodic theory.

2022 Tomasz Grzywny from Wrocław University of Science and Technology for groundbreaking results in probabilistic potential theory, especially in the field of unimodal Lévy processes, in a cycle of papers published in the years 2007-2021.
 
2021

Krzysztof Krupiński from the University of Wrocław for a development of a deep theory and achieving breakthrough results, linking model theory
with descriptive set theory and topological dynamics, in a cycle of papers published in the years 2010-2020.

Damian Osajda from the University of Wrocław and the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences for
outstanding achievements in the field of geometric group theory.

Dariusz Buraczewski from Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw,
for a monograph and series of important works on the properties of stochastic difference equations and their
applications to products of random matrices and random walks in a random environment
algebra.

Agata Smoktunowicz from School of Mathematics, University of Edinburgh,
for outstanding achievements in algebra.

Piotr Śniady from Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences,
for outstanding achievements in asymptotic representation theory.

Krzysztof Oleszkiewicz from Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw,
for outstanding achievements in probability theory and its applications.

2015

Adrian Langer from Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw,
for outstanding achievements in algebraic geometry.

2014

Rafał Latała from Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw,
for deep results from probability theory and convex geometry.

2013

Grzegorz Karch from the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Wroclaw,
for deep results in nonlinear partial differential equations.

2012

Yuriy Tomilov from Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences,
for deep results from operator theory and semigroups of operators in Hilbert spaces. In particular for characterization of operators quasi similar to contractions, results concerning stability of semigroups and their spectral properties.

2011

Krzysztof Bogdan from Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Warsaw Technical University,
for deep results linking theory of stochastic processes with classical mathematical analysis.

2010

Sławomir Solecki from University of Illinois,
for papers from set theory concerning applications of descriptive set theory in topology and analysis.

2009

Jarosław Włodarczyk from Purdue University,
for outstanding results from algebraic geometry especially for a theorem on factorization of birational morphisms between algebraic varieties with the help of compositions of blow-ups and blow-downs.
