Léonard Cadilhac from the Université Sorbonne in Paris is this year's winner of the international Barbara and Jarosław Zemanek Prize for achievements in functional analysis with particular emphasis on operator theory. The jury highlighted the laureate's outstanding results on the noncommutative inequalities of Khintchin and maximal functions and the noncommutative Calderon-Zygmund theory. In addition, the jury distinguished the laureate's profound generalization of Lindenstrauss's ergodic theorem for the actions of medium-sized groups in the case of noncommutative probabilistic spaces. The award was established by IM PAN in 2018 from funds provided by Jarosław and Barbara Zemanków. The winner is selected annually by a seven-member international jury.
